Running Network Upgrades to OpenX Enterprise
The Running Network connects the world’s largest athletic community, reporting on the latest competition results, race announcements, and training advice.
Ad revenue drives their business. But it wasn’t easy for the 4-person sales and ad-ops team to manage the ad campaigns running on all 23 sites in their network.
“I would have to go four or five times a day to manage the server,” Chuck Bartlett said. “We needed a way to schedule the ads centrally, and keep track of delivery and performance.”
A Good Investment
After hearing about OpenX from another business partner, Chuck began using the free OpenX Source product. The program worked well for a few sites, but Chuck knew they needed more sophisticated ad management for their growing network. Though they had to pay for OpenX Enterprise, Chuck and his associates soon realized that it would help them grow their profits in the long run.
“When we projected what we were going to make with ad revenues, it just seemed like a small investment,” Chuck said of upgrading to OpenX Enterprise.
Chuck said it immediately made an impact, simplifying his deals with partner websites and advertisers as well.
“Now, these different sites don’t have to worry about ad trafficking,” Chuck said, “We can handle everything centrally.”
Strong Technical Support
The upgrade to Enterprise gives the Running Network access to OpenX’s 24/7 technical support. Chuck notes that the support has made his job even easier, since OpenX’s professional technicians handle the necessary troubleshooting.
“When we have a problem, the support has been awesome. With the Enterprise version, I just call up and say ‘hey, there’s a problem,’ and it’s fixed,” Chuck said. “And they’re very thorough. They’ll check a day after there’s problems to make sure things are fine. It’s reassuring to know that there’s always someone there when you need them.”
